Kenwood's dining is convenience-first, and the neighborhood is honest about that. The Kenwood Shopping Center on Kenwood Avenue holds the coffee shop and the eateries that most residents actually use during the week, all within walking distance of a good share of the neighborhood (Apartments.com neighborhood guide, accessed 2026-08-13). It is not a destination, but it means you can get a coffee without starting the car in February.
For a real meal out, the choice is downhill or east. At Sara's Table Chester Creek Cafe at 1902 East 8th Street is about eight minutes toward the campuses and is the nearest full-service restaurant of consequence, doing farm-to-table breakfast through dinner with a bakery. Sir Benedict's Tavern on the Lake at 805 East Superior Street is roughly twelve minutes down for sandwiches, a long tap list, and live music.
East along the shoreline is a longer run from Kenwood than from the other above-the-hill neighborhoods, but the Lakeside business block is worth the eighteen minutes for Amity Coffee, Sammy's Pizza in the location the family has run since 1958, and Lake Superior Brewing a few minutes past. For an occasion, the New Scenic Cafe on Highway 61 is about thirty minutes up the shore.
The real advantage is Miller Hill, seven minutes west, which carries most of the region's chain dining, and downtown at ten minutes for the full range.
