Kenwood has the most convenient driving position of any neighborhood in this guide. Miller Hill retail and medical is about seven minutes, Duluth International Airport about eight, downtown about ten, and Superior around eighteen. Kenwood Avenue, Arrowhead Road, and Trinity Road are the arterials, with Rice Lake Road and Howard Gnesen running north.
For anyone who flies regularly, that eight-minute airport run is a genuine differentiator. From Lester Park the same trip is roughly twenty-three minutes.
Transit needs verification.
Cycling is better here than in most of Duluth for the simple reason that the ground is level. Utility cycling to the shopping center or the campus is realistic rather than aspirational, which is not true in Congdon Park or Hunter's Park. Off-road riding means a short trip east to Hartley or west to Piedmont.
Winter driving, honestly. Kenwood gets the above-the-hill winter: snow arrives earlier and lies later than on the lake-moderated shoreline, and Duluth averages about 90 inches a season on the 1991 to 2020 normals (NWS Duluth, accessed 2026-08-13). But the terrain changes what that means day to day. There are no steep grades to ice over, no shaded hillside driveways, and no hill to climb home. Snow tires are still sensible and a snowblower still earns its keep, but Kenwood is the easiest winter neighborhood in this guide by a clear margin.
Biking: Comparatively level ground makes Kenwood one of the more rideable Duluth neighborhoods for utility cycling. Off-road, Hartley and the Duluth Traverse are a short ride east.
