Kenwood is in Duluth Public Schools (ISD 709), and the usual pathway is Homecroft Elementary, then Ordean East Middle School, then Duluth East High School. Homecroft is at 4784 Howard Gnesen Road and enrolls roughly 448 students in preschool through grade 5 (NCES Common Core of Data, 2024-2025, accessed 2026-08-13), shared with Woodland and Hunter's Park.
Confirming the assignment matters more in Kenwood than in most of this guide, and it is worth stating plainly. The neighborhood sits nearer several ISD 709 boundary lines than the east-side neighborhoods do, including the divide between the district's two middle schools and its two high schools. A house on one street and a house a few blocks west can genuinely land differently. Use the district's school locator or call ISD 709 with the specific address rather than relying on any neighborhood-level statement, including this one.
Private options are close. Marshall School, the independent college preparatory school at 1215 Rice Lake Road, is the nearest private campus to Kenwood. Stella Maris Academy, the consolidated Catholic system, has its St. John's and Jr./Sr. High campuses on this side of the hill. Private schools are not covered by Minnesota Department of Education report card data, so this guide does not rate them alongside the public schools. All three of the region's post-secondary institutions are within about ten minutes.
