About Duluth East High School
Duluth East High School serves grades 9 through 12 for the eastern half of the city, enrolling roughly 1,495 students (NCES Common Core of Data, 2024-2025, accessed 2026-08-13). It is one of two comprehensive high schools in Duluth Public Schools (ISD 709), paired with Denfeld on the west side, and the two have one of the older rivalries in Minnesota high school sports.
The campus sits at 301 North 40th Avenue East, which places it at the western edge of the Lakeside neighborhood and within walking or short-biking distance for a meaningful share of Lakeside and Lester Park students. That is unusual for a school this size and is a practical selling point for the east-side neighborhoods around it.
East draws from Ordean East Middle School and the east-side elementaries, and its academic and athletic programs, particularly Nordic skiing and hockey, are tied closely to the trail and rink infrastructure in the surrounding neighborhoods. Attendance boundaries change between years, so confirm the assignment for a specific address with the district.
