Sir Benedict's Tavern on the Lake, known locally as Sir Ben's, sits at 805 East Superior Street on the edge of the East End, a few minutes down London Road from Congdon Park. It is a British-style pub in the honest sense: sandwiches, a long beer list, wooden booths, and no interest in reinventing itself.

Live music is a large part of what it is. The tavern runs a regular schedule of local acts, and its patio, which faces toward the lake, is one of the better places in the city to sit through a July evening.

For Congdon Park residents it is the closest thing to a neighborhood pub, roughly five to eight minutes west, and it fills the gap left by a neighborhood that has essentially no commercial space of its own. From Lakeside and Lester Park it is a longer run, closer to fifteen and eighteen minutes respectively.
