Oneota has no park of consequence inside it, and everything it uses is a short distance away.
Irving Park and Playfield, immediately south in the adjoining neighborhood, is the nearest real park with ball fields and a playground. Keene Creek Park runs the creek corridor west through West Duluth. Wade Stadium, the historic brick ballpark that hosts the Duluth Huskies, is about a mile north and is one of the genuine west-side institutions.
The Lake Superior Zoo sits at 72nd Avenue West and Grand Avenue in Fairmount, about eight minutes southwest, which puts a full-scale family attraction within an easy drive.
For trails, the Duluth Cross City Trail is the important one: a paved, car-free route running northeast from West Duluth toward the Bayfront and downtown, which turns a noisy neighborhood into a genuinely good place to ride from. The Willard Munger State Trail's Norton Park trailhead at 75th Avenue West is about ten minutes southwest and runs 70 paved miles south through Jay Cooke. Up the hill, the Duluth Traverse singletrack and Spirit Mountain's skiing and lift-served bike park are ten minutes away.
Water access is the St. Louis Bay along the southern edge, though much of that frontage is working industrial ground rather than public shoreline. The adjoining Irving neighborhood carries the better public access at Grassy Point.
Winter: downhill skiing and tubing at Spirit Mountain, fat biking on the Duluth Traverse, snowmobiling on the Munger corridor, sledding, outdoor rinks in the West Duluth parks.
