About Irving Park and Playfield
Irving Park and Playfield is the neighborhood park for Duluth's Irving neighborhood, with ball fields, a playground and open playfield space on flat West Duluth ground.
Its significance is easy to underrate from outside the area. Several of the surrounding West Duluth neighborhoods, Cody and Fairmount among them, have no everyday park of their own at all, so Irving Park does the work for a wider area than its size suggests. On a summer evening it is where the neighborhood is.
The flat terrain matters here as much as the facilities. In a city where most parks are on a slope or in a ravine, a level playfield you can walk to is a genuinely different kind of amenity, and it is part of why Irving rates higher on walkability than most of its neighbors despite having no commercial block.
