About Enger Park

Enger Park sits on the hillside above downtown Duluth, and its stone observation tower is one of the two or three images most people carry of the city. From the top, the view takes in the harbor, the Aerial Lift Bridge, Park Point, and the Wisconsin shore, which makes it the standard first stop for anyone showing a visitor around.

The park is more than the tower. A Japanese peace garden, formal plantings, and a peace bell occupy the ground below it, and hiking trails run off into the hillside woods and connect toward Skyline Parkway and the wider city trail network. Enger Park Golf Course occupies the ground beyond, and it is the course the city chose to invest in when it closed Lester Park Golf Course in 2020.

For the neighborhoods below and around it, Lincoln Park, Duluth Heights, and Piedmont in particular, Enger functions as the local large park: a place to walk, to take visitors, and to watch the harbor work. Parking fills on summer weekends and during fall color.
