Congdon Park

Restaurants & dining in Congdon Park, Duluth, Minnesota

Part of the Congdon Park neighborhood guide. Back to the full guide.

Congdon has essentially no restaurants inside its own boundaries, and that is by design: the neighborhood was platted and zoned as residential and has stayed that way. What it has instead is a five minute drive in either direction to two very different dining corridors.

West, toward Chester Park and downtown, is where Congdon residents go for a real meal out. At Sara's Table Chester Creek Cafe at 1902 East 8th Street has been the east side's farm-to-table anchor for years, doing breakfast through dinner in a converted house near the creek. Sir Benedict's Tavern on the Lake at 805 East Superior Street is the neighborhood's default pub: sandwiches, a long tap list, live music, and a patio facing the water. Beyond those, London Road and downtown put the fullest range of dining in the city within about ten minutes.

East along Superior Street is the Lakeside business block, roughly 44th to 47th Avenue East, which has quietly become the most walkable eating-and-drinking strip on this side of town. Amity Coffee handles mornings, Crank and Dasher does handmade ice cream next door, Sammy's Pizza has run its Lakeside location since the family started in Duluth in 1958, and Lake Superior Brewing pours a few blocks further out. For a special occasion, the New Scenic Cafe on Highway 61 is about fifteen minutes up the shore.
