Downtown is about eight minutes by car; London Road and Superior Street handle the everyday trips, with Skyline Parkway and I-35 for the rest. Miller Hill, where the big-box retail and much of the medical office space sits, is about twelve minutes up and over the hill. Superior, Wisconsin is about fifteen minutes and the airport about eighteen. DTA buses run the London Road and Superior Street corridors.
Biking works better than the topography suggests, as long as you plan around it. The Lakewalk gives you a flat, car-free spine east and west, and the residential streets carry little traffic. Every trip that starts at home, though, ends with a climb.
Winter note, and this is the honest part. Duluth's airport averages about 90 inches of snow a season on the 1991 to 2020 normals (NWS Duluth, accessed 2026-08-13), and the lakeshore neighborhoods can run above or below that depending on wind direction. The season is long rather than severe: measurable snow is possible from October into April, and the ground under the tree canopy holds it. Plan on a season, not a few storms.
Biking: The Lakewalk plus low-traffic residential streets, with the Duluth Traverse and Superior Hiking Trail reachable up the hill. The grades are the real limiter, not the traffic.
