Billings Park is small, but it is not foodless. A short commercial block on Iowa Avenue gives the neighborhood a few walk-to places of its own. The Billings Park Eatery, a breakfast and lunch cafe known for wild rice pancakes and Bridgeman's ice cream, operates in the storefront that once held the now-closed Billings Park Cafe, and a pair of neighborhood taverns, Jimmy's Saloon and Charlie Brown's, hold down the same block. A few blocks north on North 21st Street, Love Creamery runs its Superior scoop shop and ice cream factory, with a full espresso bar and baked goods. It is not a dining district, but it is a real corner of its own rather than nothing.
For a full night out, the rest is east, and none of it is far. Downtown Superior and the Tower Avenue corridor are about ten to twelve minutes, and that is where the city's food and drink is concentrated. The Anchor Bar at 413 Tower Avenue is the institution, run by the Anderson family since 1977, serving cheap generously built burgers and fresh-cut fries under a ceiling of maritime salvage. Thirsty Pagan Brewing at 1615 Winter Street does hand-stretched pizza and house beer in the 1908 Soo Line Freight Depot and is the default group dinner in the city. Earth Rider Brewery at 1617 North 3rd Street and its Cedar Lounge taproom, in a 1912 building billed as the longest continually operating tavern in the Twin Ports, anchor the region's best small music room. Hammond Steak House at 1402 North 5th Street carries the Wisconsin supper club tradition.
The other direction is worth knowing about too. Over the Bong Bridge, Duluth's west side and the Lincoln Park craft district are ten to fifteen minutes away, which gives Billings Park households a genuine second set of options that the eastern Superior neighborhoods treat as further afield.
For a household that eats out often, the drive is the honest cost of living here. For a household that cooks, it is close to irrelevant.
