About Thirsty Pagan Brewing
Thirsty Pagan Brewing is Superior's brewpub, doing hand-stretched pizza alongside house-brewed beer, with sandwiches, seasonal salads, and vegetarian and vegan options on the menu (Thirsty Pagan Brewing, accessed 2026-08-13).
Its history is a small tour of Superior's brewing revival. It started in 1996 on a two-barrel system in the Itasca area, became a full brewpub in Superior's North End in May 2006 when owner Steve Knauss bought the assets of the former Twin Ports Brewing, and in June 2019 moved to 1615 Winter Street, one block east of Tower Avenue off Belknap. The current home is the Soo Line Freight Depot, built in 1908 and used by the railroad until 1989, which is a fair summary of how Superior recycles its industrial buildings.
It is the default group dinner in Superior: big enough for a crowd, casual enough for kids, and with regular live music that makes it a night out rather than just a meal. Along with Earth Rider and the Cedar Lounge, it is a large part of why Superior's food and drink scene now draws people across the bridge from Duluth rather than only the other way.
Good to know: house-brewed beer, hand-stretched pizza, vegetarian and vegan options, sandwiches, seasonal salads, live music, 1908 Soo Line Freight Depot building.
