Spirit Valley's own dining is modest and practical: the Grand Avenue business district carries everyday restaurants and cafes serving the neighborhood rather than drawing visitors from across the city. For a working main street, that is exactly the correct offering, and being able to walk to lunch is worth something.
For a meal worth driving to, the Lincoln Park Craft District is about ten minutes east and is the best dining value in Duluth. OMC Smokehouse does smoked meats with a patio on West Superior Street. Bent Paddle Brewing anchors the district from West Michigan Street. Ursa Minor Brewing runs a taproom with rotating food trucks, and Duluth Cider and Wildstate Cider give the area two cideries. Duluth Grill, the west side's best-known restaurant, is about nine minutes east and does scratch cooking with gardens on the property.
That is a strong set of options for a ten-minute drive, and it is the single biggest improvement in West Duluth quality of life over the past decade.
Beyond that, downtown is fifteen minutes for the full range, and the east side's restaurants, including At Sara's Table Chester Creek Cafe and Sir Benedict's Tavern on the Lake, are eighteen to twenty minutes out, which is far enough that most Spirit Valley households treat them as an occasion rather than an option.
