You will love Lakeside if you want an east-side address with a real neighborhood block you can walk to, a short run to Lester Park and the Lakewalk, and a house you can actually afford without giving up the Duluth East pathway. It suits families who will use the rink and the trails, first-time buyers who want a bungalow they can improve over time, and anyone who values a neighborhood with a long memory and an active community club. If your ideal Saturday is a trail in the morning and coffee on Superior Street after, this is the address.
Look elsewhere if you need to be near a freeway, an airport, or a hospital on a tight schedule, because Lakeside is the far end of a long city and every trip out is a real trip. Look elsewhere if you want new construction, single-level living, or a low-maintenance build, because there is almost none of it here. Look elsewhere if a grocery run you cannot walk to is a dealbreaker, or if lake-effect snow and steep uphill streets from November through March would wear you down.
If you like Lakeside but want more trail out the back door and slightly bigger lots, look at Lester Park next door. If you want the same schools and much older, grander architecture and can pay for it, look at Congdon Park. If you want quiet and trees over a walkable block, look at Hunter's Park.
