Hunter's Park

Daily life in Hunter's Park, Duluth, Minnesota

Part of the Hunter's Park neighborhood guide. Back to the full guide.

Errands are a short drive rather than a walk. The Kenwood Shopping Center, about a mile and a half west, is the nearest full grocery and covers pharmacy and everyday retail; Mount Royal is a similar distance downhill and covers the same ground. Neither is walkable from most of the neighborhood in winter.

There is a small commercial node on Woodland Avenue with a handful of everyday businesses, but it is not a shopping district and should not be mistaken for one. Hardware means Miller Hill or the Lakeside block. Gas is on the Woodland and Kenwood corridors.

Where Hunter's Park does well is the bigger errands. Miller Hill, about eight minutes away, covers big-box retail, the mall, and most chain services, and that is a genuinely shorter run than from any of the shoreline neighborhoods. Essentia Health and St. Luke's are both roughly ten minutes downhill. The Mount Royal branch library is the nearest, with the main branch downtown.

Noise: Very quiet on the interior streets. Traffic noise along Woodland Avenue and Arrowhead Road. No rail, port, or freeway noise, and far enough inland that the foghorn rarely carries.
