Local lore in Hunter's Park, Duluth, Minnesota

• The neighborhood is a merger. Hunter's Park swallowed Waverly Park, Kenilworth Park, and Glen Avon, and locals still use the old names for particular pockets even though no map does.
• The Glen Avon rink sits on the old Hunter's Field, ground that has carried neighborhood athletics for more than 125 years without a break.
• Before the ski jumps were built in Chester Park, the local ski club's first hill was behind Washburn School, and it hosted real tournaments.
• Washburn School, built in 1905 with additions in 1926 and 1957, still stands at 201 West St. Andrews Street, but the district elementary for this area is Homecroft, up on Howard Gnesen Road.
• Glen Avon Presbyterian houses an Aeolian-Skinner pipe organ, Opus 1378, which is a serious instrument for a neighborhood church.
• The whole neighborhood owes its existence to a streetcar line that stopped running in 1939. The curving streets were laid out for a transit system that no longer exists.
