Local lore in Fairmount, Duluth, Minnesota

• The zoo is the neighborhood. Fairmount is the answer to "where is the Lake Superior Zoo," and for most of the city that is the only context the name has.
• Kingsbury Creek runs through the zoo grounds, which is charming most years and was catastrophic in June 2012, when the regional flood tore through the corridor and hit the zoo directly.
• Two creeks set the boundaries. Keene Creek east and Kingsbury Creek west, and the neighborhood is the ground in between, which is why it is small.
• The dog park is at the Keene Creek edge and is one of the few places in the neighborhood where neighbors reliably run into each other.
• The Munger Trail starts next door. Seventy paved miles running south to Hinckley begin minutes away at 75th Avenue West in Norton Park.
• Grand Avenue is the reason and the cost. The arterial made the neighborhood reachable and it is the loudest thing about living on it.
