Local lore in Norton Park, Duluth, Minnesota

• Two long-distance trails start here. The Munger's 70 paved miles to Hinckley and the Western Waterfront Trail both begin at 75th Avenue West, which makes this small neighborhood a significant trailhead by any standard.
• The community center is made of Duluth steel. Built in 1965 from steel supplied by the Duluth Steel Building Company, and the grounds are among the last community parks in the city maintained by residents rather than the city.
• Spirit Mountain is the back yard. The ski hill is about five minutes up, close enough that a weeknight run is realistic.
• Two creeks set the edges. Kingsbury east, Knowlton west, and the neighborhood is the ground between them.
• The 2012 flood came down Kingsbury Creek and did serious damage along the eastern edge.
• There have long been plans to push the Munger north to Canal Park and tie it into the Lakewalk, which would put Norton Park in the middle of a cross-city route rather than at the end of a regional one.
