Local lore in Riverside, Duluth, Minnesota

• A shipyard built here in 1918. The McDougall Duluth Shipbuilding Company worked on Spring Street during the First World War, and the site is now the Spirit Lake Marina, so the ground has been about boats for over a century.
• The Munger Trail runs through the middle. Seventy paved car-free miles to Hinckley pass straight through a neighborhood most of Duluth has never driven into.
• Spirit Lake is a river. The wide water the neighborhood sits on is the St. Louis River, not a separate lake, part of the estuary system above Morgan Park.
• Proctor is closer than Duluth for groceries. Over the hill north is roughly the same drive as the Spirit Valley strip northeast, which is unusual for a Duluth address.
• Bardon Peak is above. The Skyline Parkway overlook and the Superior Hiking Trail run the ridge behind the neighborhood.
• Nobody has an apartment. The tract reports zero housing units in structures of five or more, the only such reading in this guide.
