Local lore in Cody, Duluth, Minnesota

• The creek breaks the grid. Keene Creek's ravine runs through the middle of the neighborhood, and the reason several Cody streets stop where they do is that the ground drops away.
• The main street is downhill and always was. Cody never built a commercial core because Spirit Valley was already two minutes below it.
• Elim Lutheran has been at 6101 Cody Street for a long time and is still an active ELCA congregation, one of the very few institutions inside the neighborhood.
• The school district line runs close. Cody's western blocks sit near the boundary with the Proctor district that serves Bayview Heights over the hill, which is why the assignment is worth confirming rather than assuming.
• You can ski after work. Spirit Mountain is about eight minutes away, which makes a weeknight run realistic in a way it is not from most of the city.
• Two rail sources, not one. The West Duluth corridor below and the Proctor yard over the hill both carry sound into the neighborhood on the right night.
