Daily life in Cody, Duluth, Minnesota

Part of the Cody neighborhood guide. Back to the full guide.

This is where Cody quietly outperforms its price.

The Spirit Valley strip immediately downhill carries grocery, pharmacy and hardware on one walkable block, about eight-tenths of a mile from the middle of the neighborhood. Most households do the weekly routine there, and from several Cody streets it is a genuine walk rather than a drive.

Miller Hill, about twelve minutes northeast, covers big-box retail, the mall and most chain services, and it is closer from here than from most of Duluth. Downtown is fourteen minutes for banking, the main library branch and professional services. Superior is fifteen across the bridges, which is worth knowing for larger taxable purchases given the lower Wisconsin sales tax rate.

Medical is reasonable: Essentia Health and St. Luke's are both downtown-adjacent at roughly fourteen minutes, and the Miller Hill medical offices are twelve.

Gas is on Grand Avenue below.

Noise: Quiet residential on most streets. Traffic noise on Grand Avenue and the arterials below, some rail carrying from the West Duluth corridor and the Proctor yard, and no freeway directly through the neighborhood, which distinguishes Cody from Oneota.
