Errands from Bayview Heights mean driving, and the drive is short. Proctor's 5th Street strip, about five minutes west, carries grocery, pharmacy, hardware, gas, and a bank on a walkable small-town block, which makes it the neighborhood's practical downtown. Most households do the weekly routine there and reserve the bigger trips for elsewhere.
Spirit Valley, about ten minutes downhill, adds a fuller grocery on West Duluth's main street. Miller Hill, eleven minutes northeast, covers big-box retail and most chain services, and is close enough that many households treat it as the default. Downtown is fourteen minutes for banking and the main library branch.
Medical is reasonable. Essentia Health and St. Luke's are both downtown-adjacent at roughly fourteen minutes, and the Miller Hill medical corridor is eleven, which is a shorter reach than either the far west end or the far east end of the city manages.
The local practice is to batch and to stock: combine the Proctor and Miller Hill runs, and treat a snowstorm as a day you already have everything you need for.
