This is the section that brings people to this page, so it goes first in plain terms: Bayview Heights is a Duluth neighborhood served by Proctor Public Schools (ISD 704), not by Duluth Public Schools.

The pathway is Bay View Elementary, then A.I. Jedlicka Middle School, then Proctor Senior High School. Bay View Elementary sits at 8708 Vinland Street, inside Duluth city limits, and enrolls roughly 529 students in prekindergarten through grade 5, making it the larger of ISD 704's two elementaries (NCES Common Core of Data, 2024-2025, accessed 2026-08-13). The other, Pike Lake Elementary, serves the district's northern area. ISD 704 enrolls roughly 1,848 students across four main schools plus early childhood and alternative programs.

What that means in practice is a small-district experience. Proctor's cohorts are a fraction of Duluth East's or Denfeld's, which produces easier access to athletics, music, and activities against a narrower course catalog than a larger high school can staff. Families who choose this neighborhood specifically often say the district is why.

The boundary itself deserves care. The Duluth-Proctor school line in this corner is unusual, it is not the city line, and it is not identical at every grade level. Some parcels at the neighborhood's edges may be assigned differently, and ISD 709's Denfeld pathway is the alternative for any address that falls on the Duluth side. Attendance boundaries also change between years. Confirm the assignment for your address with ISD 704 before you count on it, and do not rely on a listing sheet or search-portal school tag, which get this neighborhood wrong routinely.

For private schooling, Marshall School on Rice Lake Road is about fifteen minutes northeast and Stella Maris Academy operates campuses in Duluth. MDE report card data does not cover private schools, so this guide does not rate them.
