Hermantown is served by Hermantown Community Schools (ISD 700), a small district running Hermantown Elementary (K-4), Hermantown Middle School (5-8), and Hermantown High School (9-12) on a shared campus, plus early childhood and alternative learning programs. Total district enrollment is roughly 2,100, with about 731 students in the elementary, 677 in the middle school, and 655 in the high school (NCES Common Core of Data, 2024-2025, accessed 2026-08-13).
The structure is the selling point. There is one building per level, which means no attendance-boundary question inside the city, no elementary-to-elementary transfer politics, and a single cohort moving through together from kindergarten to graduation. For families comparing against Duluth's ISD 709, which enrolls roughly four times as many students across nineteen schools, that difference in scale is the main thing being bought.
Attendance is not universal to the city limits, though. A small number of parcels at the edges of Hermantown fall into ISD 704 (Proctor) or ISD 709 (Duluth) instead, and boundaries change. Confirm the assignment for a specific address with the district before you count on a school. Minnesota open enrollment also lets families apply across district lines, and Hermantown both sends and receives students under it, so the district's enrollment does not map perfectly onto the city's residents.
