Canosia's recreation is water and woods rather than facilities, and it is on the doorstep rather than a drive.
The four lakes are the main event: Pike, Caribou, Fish and Wild Rice, together 4.40 square miles of water inside the township. Fishing, boating, swimming and ice fishing are the everyday recreation here, and for lakeshore owners it is literally out the back door. Public access points, boat launches and water quality were not confirmed in the research run on 2026-08-14, so check the Minnesota DNR LakeFinder and St. Louis County for the specific lake before relying on public access.
The Canosia State Wildlife Management Area occupies the north-central portion of the township with deciduous and coniferous forest and a wetland and bog complex, open to hunting and wildlife watching under DNR rules. Confirm current acreage, boundary and public-use rules with the DNR before planning around it.
Organized recreation is south in Hermantown, and that is where township children play. Fichtner Park and Fichtner Fields on Maple Grove Road is the main complex, with Stebner Park and the Rose Road athletic fields nearby, and the Hermantown amateur hockey and youth soccer associations both serve the township.
For trails, you travel. The Hermantown Connector paved trail system is the nearest developed riding, immediately south. The Duluth Traverse mountain bike network and the Superior Hiking Trail's in-city section are about twenty minutes southeast on the Duluth hillside, and the Willard Munger State Trail, 70 paved miles per the Minnesota DNR, is reachable on the Duluth side.
Winter recreation is snowmobiling, ice fishing, and skiing and snowshoeing on private and state land, with Spirit Mountain about thirty minutes southwest for lift-served alpine.
