You will love Canosia Township if you want a lake. That is the honest headline: four of them lie partly inside the boundary, lakeshore is genuinely available, and it sits twenty-two minutes from downtown Duluth, fifteen from the Miller Hill corridor and eight from an airport with scheduled commercial service. Add an elementary school inside the township, a small school district where participation is easy, and thirty square miles of land, and it suits families who want water and space, people who work at the airport or in Hermantown, and anyone whose weekends revolve around a boat or a snowmobile.
Look elsewhere if aircraft noise would wear on you, and be honest with yourself rather than optimistic. The 148th Fighter Wing flies F-16s from the field next door, and on the southeastern side of the township that is a recurring part of daily life. Visit twice, on a weekday, before you decide.
Look elsewhere if you want to walk to anything, because there is essentially nothing to walk to and no bus at all. Look elsewhere if a private well, a septic system and, on frontage, shoreland zoning sound like someone else's problem. And look elsewhere if the coldest, snowiest, latest-spring conditions in this guide are not something you actively want, because at 1,420 to 1,480 feet with no lake moderation, that is what you are choosing.
