Morgan Park

Safety in Morgan Park, Duluth, Minnesota

Part of the Morgan Park neighborhood guide. Back to the full guide.

Morgan Park reads as a very quiet residential neighborhood with almost no through traffic and a strong local identity. The formal street plan and consistent building relationships give it better sightlines and legibility than most older Duluth neighborhoods.

Like the rest of the far west end, it carries a citywide reputation formed during the decades of industrial decline that has not caught up with its current condition, and that gap is worth setting aside in favor of data and a visit.

For anything beyond feel, use city-published trend data rather than impressions or reputation. The Duluth Police Department's 2025 Annual Report is the right starting point for current citywide figures (accessed 2026-08-13), and citywide trends over the last several years have moved down in both violent and property offense counts. We describe streets and conditions, never the people who live on them.

The genuine local considerations are environmental and infrastructural: the former industrial site adjacent to the neighborhood and its remediation history, rail crossings, and the river along the southern edge, which is cold and fast in spring melt.
