Midway Township

Schools in Midway Township, Minnesota

Part of the Midway Township neighborhood guide. Back to the full guide.

Midway Township is in Proctor Public Schools (ISD 704), a small district, which is the main school fact to weigh.

The middle and high schools share a campus at 131 9th Avenue in Proctor, about ten minutes east. A.I. Jedlicka Middle School enrolls about 450 students in grades 6 to 8 and Proctor Senior High School about 540 in grades 9 to 12 (NCES Common Core of Data 2024-2025, accessed 2026-08-14). A high school of 540 is a third the size of Duluth East. That cuts both ways honestly: participation in activities is easy and cohorts are small, against a narrower course catalog than a large school can offer.

The elementary assignment needs checking per address and this guide will not guess at it. The district runs two elementaries: Bay View Elementary at 8708 Vinland Street with about 529 students in PK-5, and Pike Lake Elementary at 5682 Martin Road with about 293 students in K-5. The boundary between them across the rural part of the district was not established in the research run on 2026-08-14. Contact ISD 704 with the specific address.

One quirk worth knowing, because it confuses people looking at maps: neither elementary building stands in Proctor. The Census geocoder places Bay View in Duluth's Bayview Heights and Pike Lake in Canosia Township. The district is Proctor ISD 704 regardless of where the buildings sit.

Because this is a rural township, bus routes and ride times are a real part of the school question rather than a footnote. Ask the district about the specific route serving the parcel before you commit, particularly for elementary-age children.

Lake Superior College is the nearest higher-education campus, with UMD and the College of St. Scholastica about twenty minutes northeast.

Bay View Elementary
Public · PK-5 · 529 students · ISD 704

The larger of Proctor's two elementaries, at 8708 Vinland Street. Worth knowing that the building stands in Duluth's Bayview Heights rather than in Proctor or the township, which the Census geocoder confirms; the district is Proctor ISD 704 regardless.

The district high school at 131 9th Avenue in Proctor, about ten minutes east, enrolling roughly 540 students. Small enough that participation in activities is easy and the course catalog is narrower than a large school's.
