Schools in Gary-New Duluth, Minnesota
Part of the Gary-New Duluth neighborhood guide. Back to the full guide.
Gary-New Duluth is in Duluth Public Schools (ISD 709) and shares the west-side pathway with Morgan Park and Fond du Lac, with one important advantage over both.
Stowe Elementary is inside the neighborhood, at 715 101st Avenue West, next door to the community park. It enrolls about 245 students in prekindergarten through grade 5 (NCES Common Core of Data, 2024-2025, accessed 2026-08-13). It serves a very large far-west catchment that reaches all the way to Fond du Lac, which means it is a small school covering a lot of ground, and it means that for families in this neighborhood specifically the elementary years involve no significant bus ride at all. For Fond du Lac families it is the opposite.
After that the distances open up. Lincoln Park Middle School, about 606 students, is at 3215 West 3rd Street, roughly fifteen minutes northeast. Denfeld High School, about 951 students, is back in the West Duluth core. Both are a real commute by bus, and families weighing this neighborhood should count the difference between the elementary years and the years after.
Denfeld is the smaller of the district's two comprehensive high schools, with a narrower course catalog than Duluth East on the other side of the city. Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College in Cloquet and Lake Superior College are both reasonable drives, as are the University of Minnesota Duluth and the College of St. Scholastica.
Attendance boundaries change between years. Confirm the assignment for a specific address with ISD 709 before it factors into an offer.
