Local lore in Gary-New Duluth, Minnesota

• The neighborhood is named for Elbert Henry Gary, the founding chairman of US Steel, which makes it a namesake cousin of Gary, Indiana.
• Gary and New Duluth were founded about twenty years apart, by different investors, for different reasons, and were only bundled together later by common usage and road signs.
• New Duluth was promoted in 1888 as a future industrial city in its own right. It was annexed into Duluth seven years later.
• Boy Scout Landing, at the end of Commonwealth Avenue, is the neighborhood's river put-in and one of the better-known access points on the estuary.
• The river corridor trail carries the Ojibwe name Waabizheshikana, the Marten Trail.
• The community park was rebuilt through a resident-led organization rather than by the City alone, which is unusual for a neighborhood this size.
