Interstate 35 clips through it, and Midway Road, Becks Road, North Cloquet Road, Lindahl Road, Ugstad Road and Stark Road make up the local network.

Elevation is the fact that shapes daily life most and gets mentioned least. That puts the township firmly in the snowier, colder band, and none of the lake-effect moderation that keeps the shoreline neighborhoods milder into autumn reaches this far inland or this far up.

What you get for it is space, quiet and Jay Cooke State Park over the back fence, at a twenty-minute commute to downtown Duluth and about ten minutes to Proctor for groceries and school. What you take on is a private well, a septic system, a driveway that needs plowing, and a two-car household with no bus as a fallback.
