  • The South End was its own village. South Superior incorporated separately before joining the City of Superior in the 1889 consolidation, and the Tower Avenue strip is the remnant of that village main street.
  • There are three Superiors. The City, the Village, and the Town are separate governments sharing a name and a ZIP code, and the boundary runs right past this neighborhood's southern edge.
  • The Municipal Forest is on the back doorstep. Most cities do not have 4,400 acres of forest inside the limits, and the South End is the neighborhood best placed to use it.
  • Nemadji Golf Course runs 36 holes and has been named the Duluth News Tribune's best golf course for six consecutive years, which is a lot of golf for a city of 26,000.
  • Wisconsin's tallest waterfall is a 13-mile drive. Big Manitou Falls at Pattison State Park is closer to the South End than to any other neighborhood in the Twin Ports.
  • The houses here are the youngest in Superior and it still is not saying much. A 1965 ranch counts as newer construction in a city where the median house predates the Second World War.
