About Chester Bowl Improvement Club
Chester Bowl is the ski hill inside the city, in Chester Park on Duluth's east hillside, and the Chester Bowl Improvement Club is the nonprofit that runs it. A chairlift-served alpine hill within the street grid is genuinely unusual, and for families on the east side it is the difference between skiing being a weekend expedition and skiing being something a child does after school.
The programme runs year-round rather than only in winter. Alpine skiing and snowboarding with lessons and race programmes fill the cold months; a summer day camp runs Mondays to Thursdays from early June to mid-August; and the Fall Fest in September is one of the neighbourhood's fixed points in the calendar.
The chalet is being rebuilt. Ground was broken in April 2026 and the organisation was still fundraising toward the final stretch of the budget as of August 2026, which means facilities and contact arrangements are in flux and worth checking before turning up (Chester Bowl, accessed 2026-08-14). That is the one caveat on an otherwise straightforward amenity.
For a buyer, the practical point is proximity. The hill is the reason a Chester Park or upper East End address carries a recreation premium that does not show up in any walk score, and it is close enough to Hunter's Park, Woodland and the Heights that families across the east side use it as their default winter outlet.
