About Indian Point Park
Indian Point Park occupies the St. Louis River frontage at the southern edge of Duluth's Norton Park neighborhood, and it is one of the few city-operated campgrounds inside a major Minnesota town.
For the far west neighborhoods it is the main water access: boat launch, river frontage and a connection to the Western Waterfront Trail, which begins nearby at 75th Avenue West alongside the northern terminus of the Willard Munger State Trail. That concentration of access in one place, campground, boat launch and two trails, makes this corner of the city unusually well served for its price point.
The water here is the St. Louis River estuary rather than Lake Superior, which is a completely different proposition: calmer, warmer, and better suited to paddling and fishing than the big lake. The estuary has been through decades of restoration work, much of it coordinated through the St. Louis River Alliance, and is in considerably better condition than it was a generation ago.
