About COGGS (Cyclists of Gitchee Gumee Shores)

COGGS is the volunteer trail organization behind most of Duluth's mountain biking. Working in partnership with the City of Duluth, it has built and maintains the Duluth Traverse, the singletrack backbone running the length of the hillside, along with the local clusters at Lester Park, Hartley, Piedmont, Mission Creek, and Spirit Mountain.

The practical effect on the neighborhoods is large. Lester Park and Lakeside residents have riding out the back door because COGGS volunteers cut and maintain it, and the same network is groomed for fat biking through the winter. Trail conditions, closures after rain, and seasonal grooming reports come from the organization rather than the city.

Getting involved is straightforward and is one of the faster ways for someone new to east Duluth to meet people: membership supports the build fund, trail work nights run through the building season, and group rides leave from the trailheads all summer.
