South Terrace Elementary, in Carlton, is the elementary school for the consolidated Carlton-Wrenshall district, serving prekindergarten through grade 5.

The district reorganized in 2026. Wrenshall voters approved consolidating their district with Carlton's by 430 to 365 on 12 May 2026, effective 1 July. Under that arrangement this building keeps the youngest grades for the whole combined district, the Carlton high school building is retired, and grades 6 through 12 moved to the former Wrenshall School in Wrenshall. That much is well established.

The building's name is less settled. A Pine Journal report of 29 May 2026 says the two school boards voted unanimously to rename this school Otter Creek Elementary School, after the designated trout stream on its own property. This guide has verified that report directly, but it is the only place the name appears: no state or federal school directory carries it, no district page we could reach uses it, and no later coverage repeats it. So this record keeps South Terrace Elementary as the school's name and treats Otter Creek as reported rather than confirmed. If you see both names locally, that is why.

One more caution on the numbers. The enrolment figure held here, about 163, is the 2024-2025 federal count for South Terrace alone and predates consolidation. The combined district now draws its elementary pupils from a wider area, so read it as history rather than today's roll. Federal directory data lags reorganizations by a year or more, which is also why it still shows the old district structure.
