Wisconsin Point is a 229-acre park on one of the longest freshwater sandbars in the world, with about 2.75 acres of developed beach and several miles of undeveloped shoreline running out to the Superior Entry (City of Superior, accessed 2026-08-13). Together with Minnesota Point across the entry, it forms the barrier that creates the Twin Ports harbor.

The habitat is what makes it exceptional. Behind the beach are dunes and pine barrens, and the point's geography funnels migrating birds along it, which makes Wisconsin Point one of the most productive migratory bird sites in the western Great Lakes. In May and September, birders come from several states. On a summer weekday it is often nearly empty.

The Point also carries deep significance for the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, whose ancestral burial ground here was relocated in the early twentieth century. The City and the Band have worked on that history together in recent years. Lake Superior here is cold year-round and the water off the point deserves respect.
