About Pine Valley Recreation Area
Pine Valley is Cloquet's winter sports complex, carrying cross-country ski trails, ski jumps, and a tubing hill (City of Cloquet, accessed 2026-08-13).
The ski jumps are the unusual part. Municipal ski jumping was once common across northern Minnesota, brought by the immigrant communities that settled the region, and almost all of those hills are gone. Cloquet is one of a small number of cities in the state still operating jumps, which makes Pine Valley a genuine regional artifact as well as a park.
For families in Cloquet, Esko, and the Carlton County corridor, it is the default winter afternoon: the tubing hill for younger kids, the ski trails for everyone else. Cloquet's parks department runs 14 city parks in total across hundreds of acres, and Pine Valley is the one that gives the city a winter identity beyond the rink.
Good to know: cross-country ski trails, ski jumps, winter tubing hill, walking trails.
