About Amnicon Falls State Park
Amnicon Falls State Park is about 10 miles east of Superior, where the Amnicon River drops through a series of falls and rapids over red sandstone along the Douglas Fault. It is smaller and gentler than Pattison, and the walking is easy enough that it works for almost anyone.
The signature feature is the bridge. A rare bowstring-arch covered bridge crosses the gorge to an island between the channels, and it is one of a small number of surviving examples of the design anywhere. Standing on it above the tea-colored water is the reason most people come.
The park has a campground, picnic areas, and a short trail network, and it makes an easy half-day trip from anywhere in the Twin Ports. Fall color here is excellent and less crowded than the equivalent Minnesota parks up the North Shore. A Wisconsin vehicle admission sticker is required.
