Thomson Township
About Thomson Township
Thomson Township is the unit of government that actually runs Esko, and buyers moving out from a city should understand what that means in practice.
Township government provides road maintenance, planning and zoning, and local administration. Fire protection is volunteer. Many parcels are on private well and septic rather than municipal water and sewer. There is no city levy, which keeps the tax structure comparatively light, and there is also no parks department, no city police force, and no municipal utility backstop.
The township also contains Jay Cooke State Park and a substantial part of the St. Louis River gorge, which shapes its planning and its recreation profile.
