About Esko Historical Society
The Esko Historical Society documents a community that was built by immigrant homesteading families and named after a store. Its collections cover the settlement of Thomson Township between the 1870s and the early 1900s, the scattered rural schools that preceded the consolidated district, Alex Esko's 1919 store at the Thomson Road corner, and the 1920 Lincoln School whose name the high school still carries.
The society's photographic and school-record collections are also available through the Minnesota Digital Library, which makes them unusually accessible for a small-community archive.
For anyone moving to Esko, it is the shortest route to understanding why a place with no city government, no downtown, and one restaurant has such a strong sense of itself.
