In a community with no city government and no commercial district, the school's booster organization does a large share of Esko's civic work.
Athletics at Esko run through a single 7-12 secondary school with a few dozen students per grade, which means a high participation rate and a correspondingly deep volunteer base: concessions, fundraising, transportation, and event staffing come from the same families whose kids are on the field.
The school campus functions as Esko's town square, and the booster organization is one of the main reasons it does.
