About St. James Catholic Church
St. James is the Catholic parish for West Duluth, at 715 North 57th Avenue West between the Denfeld and Spirit Valley neighborhoods. It was confirmed active in August 2026, which matters because the Diocese of Duluth has closed or consolidated a great many neighborhood parishes over recent decades.
It is clustered with St. Elizabeth Parish, with the parish office located here at St. James. Clustering is the dominant pattern in this diocese now: parishes remain open but share clergy and administration rather than operating independently. One practical consequence for anyone planning to attend is that Mass times at clustered parishes often rotate between sites, so a published schedule can be right for one weekend and wrong for the next.
The parish shares its site with the St. James campus of Stella Maris Academy, Duluth's consolidated Catholic school system, which teaches early childhood through grade 6 there. That pairing matters for west-side families: this is the only Stella Maris campus on this side of the city, and every other one requires a drive east.
Two things are unsettled. The street number is given as 715 by some sources and 721 by others, and the authoritative tiebreaks could not be read by automated fetch. And the Mass times above should be confirmed as St. James specific rather than the combined cluster schedule.
