About Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd

The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd sits at 1325 North 45th Avenue East, up the hill from the Lakeside business block on the avenue that carries most of the neighborhood's uphill traffic. It is the closest Lutheran congregation to the heart of Lakeside.

Its presence fills out a picture worth understanding about this neighborhood. Lakeside was founded by a temperance-minded Protestant community that wrote an alcohol ban into its charter, and the churches strung along Superior Street and the numbered avenues above it were civic institutions from the beginning rather than later arrivals. Lakeside Presbyterian on McCulloch Street, Lester Park United Methodist further east, St. Michael's Catholic on Superior Street, and Good Shepherd on 45th Avenue East give the neighborhood four established congregations inside a roughly ten block radius.
