Sonju Trail
About Sonju Trail
The Sonju Trail is Two Harbors' lakefront path, running along the Lake Superior shore between the park at Burlington Bay and the park at Agate Bay, past the city beach, the campground, the breakwater, and the 1892 light station (Gitchi Gami Trail Association, accessed 2026-08-13).
It is the best short walk in this guide, and the reason is the mix. You get open Lake Superior on one side, a working ore dock at one end where boats still load iron, and a lighthouse in between. Very few places let you walk from a beach to an industrial waterfront in fifteen minutes and have both be the point.
For residents it is the everyday route: the after-dinner walk, the dog walk, the run, and in a town where the population is about 3,400, the place you will run into people you know. It also links into the southwestern terminus of the Gitchi-Gami State Trail.
Good to know: Lake Superior shoreline, connects Burlington Bay to Agate Bay, lighthouse and ore dock views, city beach access, breakwater.
