The Scoop on 47th is the other ice cream stop in Lakeside, and the more idiosyncratic one: part ice cream counter, part antique and media shop, which means you can browse records while someone scoops.

The name is literal and worth taking at face value, because plenty of sources get this wrong. The shop is at 714 North 47th Avenue East, on 47th itself, not on the East Superior Street business block a short walk downhill. If you are looking for it among the Superior Street storefronts you will not find it.

That two-things-at-once combination is characteristic of how Lakeside has redeveloped. Rather than filling with chains, the neighborhood picked up a run of owner-operated businesses that each do two or three things, which is what lets a handful of storefronts support a neighborhood with no supermarket.

It keeps afternoon and early evening hours seven days a week, later on Friday and Saturday, and it is a short walk from Amity Coffee, Crank and Dasher and Sammy's Pizza.

Good to know: ice cream counter, antiques, records and media, on 47th Avenue East rather than Superior Street.
