The Alpine Bar is the neighborhood tavern on the Commonwealth Avenue strip in Gary-New Duluth, and the closest thing the far west end of Duluth has to a local.
Its role is straightforwardly social rather than culinary. This end of the city has no commercial center beyond a few blocks, and the neighborhood's other gathering places are a daytime cafe and the community park, so the tavern covers the evening.
