About Lester Park
Lester Park is the anchor of far east Duluth, holding more than nine miles of hiking and mountain bike trail on the ground between Amity Creek and the Lester River (City of Duluth, accessed 2026-08-13). The two watercourses give the park its shape: the Lester drops through a rock gorge in a series of falls and chutes, and Amity Creek runs down the western side beneath the stone arch bridges of Seven Bridges Road.
Facilities sit at the Superior Street end, where the parking lot, playground, picnic tables, grills, and rentable pavilions are. The pavilions are reservable for private picnics, large public events, and weddings, and the park is managed in partnership with the Lakeside-Lester Park Community Club, which runs the annual Lester Park Rendezvous here each September.
Use is genuinely year-round. Summer brings trail runners, riders on the Duluth Traverse, and swimmers at the river holes; fall brings hikers and hawk watchers headed to the ridge; winter brings cross-country skiers, snowshoers, and fat bikers. The gorge is steep and the river runs cold and fast in spring, so keep clear of the rock edges during melt.
