Leif Erikson Park is the formal front lawn of Duluth's east side: terraced grass running down to the Lake Superior shoreline off London Road, with the Lakewalk passing through it and an amphitheater used for summer concerts and films. It is the park people picture when they picture Duluth in July.

The Rose Garden sits at its eastern edge and is the reason most visitors come. Thousands of roses are planted in formal beds around a central fountain and pergola, with the lake as the backdrop, and the display peaks from midsummer into early fall. It is one of the most photographed spots in the city and a standing venue for wedding photos.

Practically, the park functions as the midpoint of the Lakewalk for east-side walkers and runners, and as an easy destination from Congdon Park and the East End without needing to drive. Parking along London Road is limited on summer weekends and during events, so walking or biking in is usually faster.
