Gary New Duluth Park is the central amenity of Duluth's far west end, sitting at 801 101st Avenue West directly beside Stowe Elementary. For a neighborhood park serving a community of roughly 3,000 people, it carries an unusually complete set of facilities: a community center, a skate park, two soccer fields, a dog park, a multi-use sport court with outdoor basketball and pickleball, an open-air pavilion and gazebo, a community garden, and picnic areas.

What makes it notable is how it got that way. The redevelopment has been driven by a resident-led organization, GND REC, working in partnership with the City of Duluth and private contributors, alongside the Duluth Community Garden Program, Duluth Dog Parks and the Arrowhead Youth Soccer Association (City of Duluth, accessed 2026-08-13). In a part of the city that spent decades after the closure of the US Steel Duluth Works losing amenities rather than gaining them, a park rebuilt by its own neighborhood is the clearest available signal about the community's direction.

Its practical role is larger than its size suggests. Because the far west end has no commercial gathering place beyond a short strip on Commonwealth Avenue, this park functions as the neighborhood's meeting ground: the rink and the community building in winter, the fields, garden and dog park through the rest of the year. It also serves Morgan Park and Fond du Lac, neither of which has a comparable facility of its own.
